Travel the World and the Seven Seas

Travel the world…that’s my dream. It’s really quite simple!

Thanks for dropping by to my second ever post (this really should have been my first but let’s not insult Amsterdam!)

I know I already have an ‘About’ section, but it doesn’t really explain what I’m doing here, writing to anyone around the world who is interested enough to read (if this blog entertains just one of you, I’ll be happy!)

I have travelled on and off my whole life. As a younger child most trips would be in the car and either to varying places in the UK to visit family and friends, or further afield across the water to France and Spain. As I got older and started to spread my wings, I took trips with friends to Spain, Portugal, Amsterdam and Greece amongst other places in Europe.

At age 20, my mother sadly passed away. I got up, booked a 12 month open return flight and buggered off to Australia. Alone. With absolutely no plan whatsoever. I hadn’t even done much research on the place nor the sheer size of it other than my youth spent watching Home & Away and Neighbours, hilarious.  So when I rock up to Adelaide in winter, with not too much more than bikinis and thongs (or flip flops as we say in UK!) it was certainly a shock to the system to have to purchase a couple of woolly jumpers! I also visited Fiji and Bali.

Fast forward some of the best days of my life Down Under, meeting so many great people, some of which I am still in contact with today and six months later I had to return unexpectedly to the UK. A story I refuse to dwell on but the tenant who was renting my flat had decided not to pay for quite some time so I was stuck, I couldn’t afford the mortgage without coming home.

My next big adventure was the land of smiles – Thailand! I ventured here with a good friend of mine, originally planned for 3 weeks but stayed for 6 (including that dreaded visa run to a Cambodian border all on my own, that is a blog post in itself!). The more I write this post, the more destination posts are exploding in my brain – I have so much to write about! I will certainly be doing a few Thailand posts along the way, old and very soon to be new…..

Since Thailand, there have been no lengthy adventures, it’s mainly been spent on short breaks in Europe and the UK and up until last year have been few and far between. There are a few reasons for this which I won’t go into, but it’s not been out of choice, I would have doubled that travel if I could! Recently however, we have returned from the most awesome road trip London-Amsterdam with some wicked memories and tales along the way in Belgium and The Netherlands. We are also going to Venice in a couple of weeks and we can’t wait. Times are changing and I will never look back!

So we have established that I love travel and I haven’t done anywhere near as much as I would have liked to have done by now, but why does that mean I have to write about it?

I may not have physically been round the world much in recent years, but thanks to the internet, I can get my fix with endless hours of research, reading numerous blogs and tales of the road, looking at photographs and even down to going through the stages of price checking and booking trips without actually clicking the payment button! Some may say a tease, but frankly I’ve always known one day I would see it all! I love to learn about places, cultures, get the feel and the smell and taste the proverbial delicacies. I dream and plan. I do this every day and have been for years. I’m addicted!

Anyone who knows me well knows of this deep passion of mine, I talk about previous tales mysterious lands, the memories that just spring into my head when least expected and spill the beans on all the places I am dying to see and things I want to do. So I figured, if I am addicted to travel (all the signs show me I am), and I love to talk about it, plan it, delve into the unknown and teach people about it, it would be much healthier to channel this energy away from my brain! Why not start a travel blog?

So here I am. With wanderlust and hungry for more of the world! I hope you enjoy my current and future posts, keep your eyes peeled for more!
