Music Makes the World go Round – My Top 5 Travelling Tunes

Those overpowering and uncontrollable range of raw emotions, happy or sad, excited or deflated. An energy you can physically feel running through your bones, those notes that make you shiver or those lyrics so true to circumstance. Music is so powerful and can take over if it’s allowed. I don’t know about you, but I certainly couldn’t live without it and this is especially true when travelling.

One of my biggest disasters when travelling was breaking my iPod. I was devastated, not because I had to fork out for a new one (I was in Thailand so that was easily done) but because I had no access to my library and had to wait until I was home to get my much needed and favourite, almost life saving tunes. That wasn’t good enough though so bought  a cheap MP3 player anyway, downloaded some random tunes from people I’d met and bopping to the beach I went. I never used that device after that, it was quite an expensive temporary measure when I look back!

Many moons ago, but getting on a pair of random shoulders and rocking it out at a festival is my idea of fun!

Music is a passion of mine equal to travel. Concerts and adrenalin pumping gigs are definitely one of my favourite pastimes. People often ask me what music I like, or who is my favourite artist or band. My answer has always been the same for as long as I can remember; It really depends on what mood I’m in and it’s as simple as that. I like so many genres and artists,  anything from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Luther Vandross, Bach to Glenn Miller, Amy Winehouse to Baby D. Honestly my list is endless!

Regardless of my endless musical loves, I have a staple playlist of songs I absolutely always must play when lying on that beach for the first time or getting ready to go out on the town in a buzzing city. It has almost become a ritual! I have narrowed it down to the top 5, which was almost impossible but here goes, in no particular order:

1) Moby –Porcelain  This is always the first song I play when I first hit the beach. The clothes come off (almost 😉 ) I get cosy in my spot, ice cold preferably alcoholic drink to hand and I breathe a huge sigh of relief. I am finally here, and this is perfection!

2) Groove Armada – At the River  This is the second beach song I play straight after Porcelain!

3) Jimi Hendrix – Little Wing This is actually one of my favourite songs of all time, I even walked down the aisle to it at our wedding! This doesn’t need any particular setting but what I do know, it’s so short I have to repeat it about five times to be satisfied enough to move onto something else!

4) Chicane – Offshore Beach, plane, jungle or hotel room – who cares? This ALWAYS gets played!  As much as I love it, I’ve changed my mind. Tracy Chapman – Fast Car has to be on this list.

5) Red Hot Chili Peppers – Road Trippin’ I am a huge fan of RHCP so many of their songs make most of my playlists, but for obvious reasons this fits my travelling mood.
